When most of us think about George Washington Carver, the first thing that comes to our mind is peanut butter. Although this man was responsible for some 100 different uses of peanuts, you might be surprised to learn that peanut butter was not listed among them. As a matter of fact, it was another man that patented the formula for peanut butter and it is a strong possibility that it was not one of George Washington Carver intentions. Even though it is possible that this man did not come up with the concept of peanut butter, that doesn't take away the fact that he was a very influential man and a genius at what he did.

Of all of the George Washington Carver inventions that influence us today, his work with crop rotation probably takes the lead. Although most of us don't really think much about crop rotation, without this simple concept in place, our land would produce much less food. George Washington Carver realized that the soil was being depleted of some of the minerals and nitrates that it needed in order to grow consistently good crops. By rotating legumes, such as peanuts with cotton crops, the land was able to produce much more as a result.

George Washington Carver was also a man that was interested in the work that he was doing. Believe it or not, he turned down a salaried job of over $100,000 a year, an astronomical figure of that time. He was more interested in developing his agricultural theories and sharing them with others. As a matter of fact, many of the George Washington Carver inventions were not patented for profit. He was more interested in sharing his work with others and allowing them to see benefit from it.

Several of the more notable patents that this man received had to do with using crops in order to produce paint and stains. As a matter of fact, he developed a process in 1927 that produced these items from soybeans. These are just a few examples of the George Washington Carver inventions that many of us take for granted. As a matter of fact, very few of us realize that this man had such a profound influence on us.

Many of the George Washington Carver inventions were created in order to help small farmers to be able to compete. After all, a small farmer in the South was unable to afford many of the commercial products that were available at that time. In helping the small farmers to survive and even to thrive, George Washington Carver influenced the people of his day and the effects continue to reach down through history, almost a century later.
