Edison’s Inventions
All throughout history, there have been inventors which have really influenced our lives in one way or another. Every time you go to a wall and flip on the light, however, you have a man by the name of Thomas Edison to thank. He is one of the more notable men out of history and not only did he patent the lightbulb, he patented almost 2000 other inventions of his. Some of these would go on to become things that we would use on an almost daily basis. As a matter of fact, Edison's inventions have an impact on our life that we often take for granted. The most famous of the Thomas Edison inventions is, of course, the lightbulb. What many people don't realize, however, is that he was not actually responsible for the concept of the lightbulb. A working lightbulb had been created about 50 years prior but what Thomas Edison did was to change the way that it worked to a certain extent in order to make it safe and practical. It took him over a year of working on this project but eventually, he was able to burn a filament that was created out of carbonized sewing thread for well over 13 hours. Of course, there were years of work that went into developing everything that was necessary in order to make the lightbulb work but it earned him a fortune and gave him a name in history that will not quickly be forgotten. Another one of Edison's inventions is the phonograph. It was not really a disc phonograph as we use today but it was, rather, a cylinder phonograph. Edison was actually interested in being able to record telephone conversations and he reasoned that if he attached a needle to the vibrating membrane of the telephone diaphragm, he would be able to prick a piece of paper and then to play it back in some fashion. Eventually, this became one of the greatest of Thomas Edison's inventions, after he was able to play back a short message that he had recorded, "Mary had a Little Lamb" What many people don't know about Edison's inventions, however, is that he had failed many times before he became successful. Although there are several well-known inventions that were created by this man, there were thousands which went down in history as being flops. You can consider Thomas Edison to be the poster child for not giving up until you are successful. Regardless of the fact that he failed so many times, Thomas Edison's inventions are something that many of us could not easily live without.
