5th Century Inventions
The fifth century is one of the more notable times in history and it certainly was one that saw a great deal of unrest. It was during this century that the Roman Empire finally decided to unravel and dissolve, giving rise to a number of different individuals who were seeking to take control. It was a time in history of noted characters, such as Atilla the Hun, Pope Leo I, and Constantine III. There are also many 5th century inventions that not only were interesting for their day, many of them are still in use today. The horse had been used throughout history for a number of different reasons but one of the most noted is that of agriculture. One of the 5th century inventions that really helped to move agriculture along with that of the horse collar. This is a part of the harness that is worn by the horse whenever it is pulling a plow. It helps to distribute the weight evenly around the horse's neck, something that allowed it to work harder and more efficiently. The horse collar was developed in China during this time period. Two other 5th century inventions that are rather notable also have to do with the use of horses and agriculture. For example, this is the century when metal horse shoes first began to be used. There was also a heavy plow that was developed in the Slavic Islands. Agriculture was one of the main sources of food for these individuals so it was important for these inventions to take place. There were also several different alphabets that came into existence and were used during this time. These are some of the more influential fifth century inventions, as forms of these alphabets are still used today. The Armenian alphabet was created in 405 and the Anglo-Saxon futhorc was used in England during this time as well.
