20th Century Inventions

The 20th century is one of the most volatile times that we have ever experienced in history and it is also a century that proceeds the one that we are now living in. All throughout this time period, there were constantly new inventions that were coming out. Although it might be said that many other centuries also had similar amounts of inventions, the 20th Century inventions certainly outweighed them, both in recorded volume and in technology. Here are some of the most notable inventions of the 20th century. Although we will not be able to name them all, some of them are simply too ingenious in order for us to overlook.

The 20th century started out with some rather notable inventions which included things such as the vacuum cleaner, air conditioning, the neon lamp and a disposable razor blade. Many of these inventions became things that we now just consider to be everyday matters. The fact of the matter is, these inventions of the 20th century ushered in a new era of convenience that we still enjoy today.

A lot of the 20th Century inventions also involved warfare. For example, the airplane was one of the inventions of the 20th century but it wasn't until it was used in warfare that it actually really took off. This is often the case with things that are often used by the military and then eventually end up in the mainstream. Some other military inventions include the flamethrower, tanks and a usable submarine.

A man by the name of Louis Reard came up with the concept for a bathing suit that was to be worn by women. This came about in 1946 and is what is commonly known as the bikini, today. This is one of the 20th Century inventions that really shapes the way that people dressed in some way or another. Believe it or not, however, the bikini is not new to the 20th century. As a matter of fact, there are ancient drawings of women wearing bikini type clothing which are several thousand years old.

A year after the bikini was created, the Polaroid camera came into existence. How many of us have used this 20th century invention at some point in our life or another? Although it has been all but replaced by the digital camera, being able to instantly have a picture in your hand is one of the more interesting inventions of the 20th century that many of us enjoyed.

The computer is something else that came about during the 20th century but there were some working models and theories that existed, long before this century came into being. The fact of the matter is, not only was the personal computer invented during this time, ethernet and later the Internet came into existence. Almost every household now has access to a personal computer of some type or another and many of them spend a lot of time on the Internet. Where would we be without this, one of the most notable 20th Century inventions?
