19th Century Inventions

The 19th century ushered in a new era that helped to develop the times that we're living in today. It is during the 19th century that the Roman Empire finally ceased to exist altogether. In its place, the British Empire came to power. The inventions of the 19th century are also rather pronounced and it became an age in which creativity in this way was encouraged. Not only that, there was also a lot of discovery that was happening during these years as many of these 19th-century inventions overtook individuals as they spread out over the earth.

Some of the major 19th-century inventions included such things as the internal combustion engine, the electromagnet and electric mower. The lawnmower also came into being during this century as well as did the refrigerator and the incandescent light bulb. These are just a few of the major 19th-century inventions that are in existence. The fact of the matter is, there are hundreds of noteworthy inventions that took place during this century.

The Industrial Revolution was coming in and things such as the sewing machine really made it possible for clothing to be mass-produced. The fact of the matter is, however, the sewing machine is one of those 19th-century inventions that not only worked well in an industrial setting but it also helped us around the home. Many individuals still sewed their own clothes at that particular time so the sewing machine was quite a timesaver, if you were able to afford having one in your home.

Another one of the inventions of the 19th century that is still commonly used today is the ballpoint pen. For thousands of years, individuals were using a variety of different methods in order to write. Even though ink had been around for thousands of years, first being developed in ancient Egypt, it wasn't until the ballpoint pen was developed that it became easy for people to write without having to carry additional ink with them. The ballpoint pen is still one of the most commonly used types of pens in existence.

A couple of 19th-century inventions that we take for granted today is that of radio transmissions and radios. Although it was not always used in order to transmit music, this is certainly the most widespread use of the technology today. The concept has been around for over 120 years, all from a simple invention that took place during this century.

The 19th-century certainly gave us a lot in the way of inventions that are still being used today. Although some of them did manage to come and go, the fact of the matter is that many of the 19th-century inventions are still very much in use today. Some of them took years before they finally caught on while others became mainstream almost immediately. You can't ignore this time in history, however, as so many different things were being conceived and brought to light.
