1920 Inventions, 1930's & 1940's Inventions
The first half of the 20th century saw some very interesting developments in both the social, economic and industrial structure that was in existence. We have many of the 1920 inventions as well as the 1930 and 1940 inventions to thank for this. Let's take a look at some of these ingenious ideas that were thought up during these three short decades. The 1920 inventions really display some of the attitudes that were prevalent during that day. This is a time that is typically known as the roaring 20s. With World War I behind them, the United States entered into a period where they really isolated themselves from the rest of the world and enjoyed great economic growth. It is also during this time, however, whenever some inventions came into light that would shape the world in a negative way. For example, the Tommy gun is one of the 1920 inventions that really stands out. There were also some other 1920 inventions that were quite ingenious. For example, the Band-Aid, the lie detector, insulin and the Yo-Yo all came about during this decade. There are also some notable 1923 inventions such as the traffic signal, the self winding watch and frozen food. Really, where would any of us be without these three specific inventions? The 1930s were also an interesting era although they were not as economically sound as the prior decade. After the Great Depression occurred in 1929, it really cast a cloud over this decade but that didn't stop many of the 1930-1939 inventions from taking place. Some of the most notable 1930 inventions included such things as Scotch tape, the first analog computer, FM radio, drive-in movies and the jet engine. There's no doubt that the 1930s have a lot to offer to all of us and many of these things are still in use today. The 1940 inventions continued to improve on many of the things that were invented during the 1930s. For example, the jet engine gave way to the turboprop engine and the analog computer ended up becoming the first electronic digital computer, in 1942. Kidney dialysis machines also came into existence as one of the most notable 1944 inventions. The next time you microwave food, you can thank the 1940s inventions for that one as well. Believe it or not, the idea of hypertext which today drives many of the websites that are in existence on the Internet first came into play in 1945. Unfortunately, the atomic bomb was also invented in 1945 and this has been one invention that has turned our world upside down from that time forward.
