15th Century Inventions
The 15th century was an important time in history and some rather notable events took place during this time. For example, Christopher Columbus discovered Spain's first New World colony in 1492. It was also the time of the Spanish Inquisition and saw the birth of Spanish unification as well as the Jews being expelled from the country in the same year that Christopher Columbus made his famous journey. There are also many 15th Century inventions that have made their mark in history as well. It was during the time of the 15th century that the age of discovery had its beginning. This time period saw the modern-day English language surface out of the middle English language that was dominant up until that time. Public banks came into existence as one of the more notable 15th Century inventions and is something that is used by almost every individual that is living in the developed world today. Scotland also had their hand in the 15th Century inventions as well. It was during this time that they developed Scotch whiskey, something that many of us still enjoy drinking today. We also have the 15th century to thank for psychiatric hospitals. Although there was a little bit of misunderstanding over what was ultimately causing the problems that these people were experiencing, it is still one of the more notable 15th Century inventions that came about.
China
also made quite a splash on the Century as they developed movable type in 1403. China never really switched over to using movable type as it was more efficient to use woodblock printing that they were already using because it served the Chinese characters better than this movable type. Building on the success of the movable type invention, Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press, about 50 years later. Music also found a way into the 15th Century inventions as the harpsichord was developed during this time. Although this musical instrument is not typically used today, it had a profound influence on many individuals as well as the performing arts for several centuries.
